Baraduke
About Baraduke
Baraduke, also known as Alien Sector in North America, is a run and gun arcade game released by Namco in 1985. This side-scrolling shooter dropped into arcades during a golden age for the genre, when titles like Namco's own Rolling Thunder were still a few years off. It was later ported to the X68000 home computer in 1995, giving it a second life on a different platform.
The player controls a character moving through horizontally scrolling levels, blasting away at waves of alien enemies while dodging their attacks. The core loop involves advancing through each stage, collecting power-ups that enhance your weapon, and facing off against a boss at the end. Movement is on foot with the ability to jump and shoot in multiple directions, typical of the run and gun style.
For fans of classic arcade shooters, Baraduke offers a solid challenge with its fast-paced action and colorful sprite work. It may not be as famous as some of Namco's other arcade hits, but it's a worthwhile play for anyone curious about the evolution of the run and gun formula. The X68000 version also makes it a bit more accessible for those who prefer playing at home.
How to Play Baraduke Online
Getting Started
When you start Baraduke, you'll see the title screen followed by the first level. Your character begins at the left edge of the stage, and you immediately need to move right while shooting enemies that appear from both sides. The goal is to survive and reach the end of the area, where a boss awaits.
The core loop is simple: shoot everything that moves, collect weapon upgrades (often dropped by enemies or found in capsules), and avoid taking damage. You can jump over obstacles and some enemy attacks. The game scrolls automatically in most sections, so you must keep moving forward. If you die, you restart from a checkpoint with reduced firepower.
Since this is an arcade title, there are no complicated menus. If you are playing a Japanese ROM dump, the text on screen will be in Japanese, but the interface is minimal and you can usually start by pressing the Start button (Enter on keyboard). The game is designed to be pick-up-and-play, so just focus on reflexes and pattern recognition.
