Getting to Know Cameltry

Cameltry is an arcade maze game that Taito unleashed in 1989. It belongs to the puzzle genre but with a unique twist: you control a ball by tilting a labyrinth, guiding it to the goal without falling off the edges. The arcade version uses the YM2610 sound chip, giving it a distinct audio flavor. The game later saw ports to home systems like the FM Towns, X68000, and SNES (where it was renamed On the Ball in North America and Europe), but this is the original coin-op release.

How to play Cameltry online

In Cameltry you tilt a maze to roll a ball toward the exit. The core loop is simple: each stage presents a scrolling labyrinth viewed from above, and you use the D-Pad (or arrow keys) to tilt the entire maze. The ball moves by gravity - pressing left tilts the maze left, sending the ball in that direction. Your goal is to reach the end zone (often marked by a flag or hole) while avoiding falling off the edges or getting stuck in dead ends. New players should take it slow at first. The ball has some momentum, so quick tilts can send it flying off the maze. You'll need to anticipate turns and use the maze's walls to guide your path. There are no enemies - just the physics of the ball and the tricky layout. This version is the US arcade release, so menus and instructions are in English. The YM2610 sound chip gives the music a distinct FM-synthesis feel that adds to the arcade atmosphere.
