Cabal (World, Joystick)
Inside Cabal (World, Joystick)
Cabal is a 1988 arcade shooting gallery developed by TAD Corporation. It hit Japanese arcades through Taito, while Fabtek handled the North American release and Capcom took care of Europe. This version is labeled "World, Joystick," indicating a global release with joystick controls. The game belongs to the run-and-gun genre, though it plays more like a fixed-screen shooter.
You control a commando who must wipe out enemy military bases across multiple stages. The action is viewed from a third-person perspective, with your character able to move left and right while firing at waves of soldiers, tanks, and helicopters. The core loop involves clearing each screen of enemies while dodging their fire, then advancing to the next base. Points are awarded for eliminations, and bonus stages break up the main assault.
Cabal was only a moderate hit in arcades, but it gained a stronger following through console ports like the NES and Atari ST versions. For retro fans, it remains a solid example of late-80s arcade shooters, offering straightforward action without any unnecessary complexity. It is not a forgotten masterpiece, but it is a satisfyingly direct game that does what it sets out to do.
How to Play Cabal (World, Joystick) Online
When you start, you are dropped into the first stage with your commando at the bottom of the screen. Use the arrow keys to move left and right, and press S to fire your weapon. Enemies appear from all sides, so keep moving to avoid their shots. The goal is to destroy every enemy on the screen, including fortified bunkers and vehicles, before moving to the next area.
The game gets challenging quickly, as enemy fire is relentless and your character has limited health. Watch for power-ups that upgrade your weapon or grant temporary invincibility. Each stage ends when all visible threats are neutralized, leading to a brief bonus round where you can rack up extra points by shooting targets.
If you are new to Cabal, focus on learning enemy attack patterns. Staying mobile is more important than accuracy, and conserving your weapon power-ups for tough segments can turn the tide. There is no continue feature in this original arcade version, so every credit counts.
