Black Widow
About Black Widow
Black Widow is an arcade twin-stick shooter that came out in 1982, developed and published by Atari. You take control of a black widow spider, using two joysticks - one to move around and the other to aim and fire at incoming insects. It was released during the golden age of arcades and is one of the early examples of dual-stick control schemes.
Your web sits in the center of the screen, and you must defend it from waves of bugs that crawl in from the edges. Enemies include scorpions, beetles, and other creepy crawlies, each with their own movement patterns. The spider can spin a temporary web to trap foes, and you earn points for each kill. The action is fast and requires constant dodging while lining up shots.
For a game from 1982, Black Widow still feels tight and rewarding today. It is a pure arcade test of reflexes, with no story or extras to distract you. Compared to twin-stick shooters like Robotron: 2084, this one has a tighter focus on a single arena and a unique theme. It is a niche title but worth a look if you want a challenging, straightforward shooter that demands precision.
How to Play Black Widow Online
In Black Widow, you start with your spider in the center of the playing field. The joystick on the left moves the spider, while the joystick on the right aims your shots. You will see bugs entering from all sides, trying to crawl onto your web and destroy it. Your goal is to shoot them before they reach the center. The core loop is simple: survive each wave, rack up points, and try to last as long as possible.
Pay attention to enemy types. Some bugs are faster, some take more hits, and a few can even shoot back at you. You can also spin a web to trap enemies temporarily, but this uses energy. Keeping an eye on your web's health meter is essential. There is no continue or save; it is pure arcade action where one mistake can end your run. Practice dodging and aiming simultaneously to maximize your score.
