American Horseshoes (US)

To start, insert a virtual coin by pressing Enter on the keyboard to activate the credit. Then press Start to begin a game. The player selects whether to play alone against the computer or with a second player taking turns. Use the Arrow Keys to position your throw - typically aiming left or right along the lane. Press the A button (X key) to set the power of your toss; a meter may appear on screen and you press again to release. The goal is to throw your horseshoe as close to the iron stake as possible, scoring points for each ringer or leaning shoe.

The core loop involves alternating throws between players or against the CPU, with each round consisting of two tosses per player. Scoring follows standard horseshoes rules: a ringer (shoe encircling the stake) earns three points, a leaner or closest shoe gets one point, and if both players ring, they cancel each other out. Play continues until a set number of points is reached, usually 21. There is no save function - each game resets when you power off or exit the emulator. The challenge is mastering the throw timing and angle, as there is no wind or other variables, just pure aim and power control.
