How to play 1943: The Battle of Midway Mark II online
Getting Started
When you first power on the arcade cabinet (or load the ROM in emulator), you'll see the title screen. Press Start (Enter) to begin, and then you can choose between one or two players by pressing Select (V) to cycle options. The game immediately drops you into the action over the ocean. Your goal is to survive as long as possible and shoot down every enemy that appears - fighter planes, bombers, ships, and the occasional huge boss.
The core loop: your plane auto-scrolls upward. You move with the D-pad and shoot with S (B button). Hold S to fire continuously. Collect power-up items that drift down from destroyed enemies - these can upgrade your weapon (P), give you a wider shot (spread), or add bombs that clear the screen. Your energy bar at the top shows health; when it reaches zero you lose a life. You can also briefly boost your firepower by holding the attack button down, but it drains energy faster. Use bombs with X (A button) to clear dangerous situations.
New players should focus on learning enemy patterns, especially the large battleship and carrier bosses. Don't hoard bombs - use them when you're about to get hit. Two-player mode is more fun and slightly easier because you can cover each other. The US version has English text, so menus and instructions are readable. Practice stage 5's carrier boss - it's a real gatekeeper.
