Golden Axe II (World)
Inside Golden Axe II (World)
Golden Axe II is a side-scrolling beat 'em up released for the SEGA Genesis in 1991. It was developed and published by Sega as a direct sequel to the arcade hit Golden Axe. This World version is essentially the international release, meaning it includes language options and regional adjustments but is mechanically identical to the original Genesis port.
How to Play Golden Axe II (World) Online
On the title screen press Start to see the character select. You can pick one of three heroes: Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, or Gilius Thunderhead. Each has different attack stats and magic spells. After choosing, you are dropped into the first level.
The core loop is simple: walk to the right, fight waves of enemies using your basic attack, jump kicks, and special magic attacks. Magic requires collecting small blue potions dropped by enemies; the more you collect, the stronger your spell becomes. You can also find rideable beasts that give you a powerful charge attack and an extra hit point.
At the end of each stage you face a boss. Dying costs a life but continues your progress if you have extra lives. The game supports two-player co-op, which makes it more chaotic and fun. There is no save feature, so finish it in one sitting or use the in-game password system to resume from certain points.
