Getting Started

Once the game loads, you will see the title screen. Press Enter to start. The German version will present menus in German, so look for "Einzelspieler" (single player) or "Mehrspieler" (multiplayer). Select a fighter from the roster using the D-Pad and confirm with X. Each character has a unique set of punches, kicks, and special moves like Scorpion's spear or Sub-Zero's freeze.

The core loop is simple: fight your opponent in a best-of-three match. Use a mix of close-range attacks and projectiles to deplete their health bar. When the opponent is almost defeated, a message may appear indicating you can perform a fatality by pressing a specific button sequence. The Game Boy Color version simplifies the 3D combat into a 2D plane but keeps the signature violence and weapon-based attacks for certain characters.

New players should practice basic moves first - learn to block (hold back on the D-Pad) and time your strikes. Special moves are executed with directional inputs plus the attack button, similar to the arcade original. If you play with a friend, connect two Game Boy units with a link cable for versus mode.
