Elmo's 123s: GBC Educational

Elmo's 123s is a Game Boy Color educational game aimed at preschool children, released exclusively in the USA. It belongs to the wave of licensed Sesame Street software from the late 1990s and early 2000s, designed to teach basic number recognition and counting. The game puts Elmo front and center, leveraging the character's popularity to engage very young players with simple interactive activities. Players guide Elmo through a series of number-themed mini-games, responding to on-screen prompts by pressing buttons or moving the D-pad. The core loop involves identifying numbers, matching quantities, and completing basic arithmetic at a very low difficulty level. Activities are short and repetitive, typical for the age group, with cheerful music and bright colors reinforcing the lessons. Today, Elmo's 123s is a straightforward, no-frills edutainment title that serves as a nice nostalgia trip for adults who grew up with Sesame Street on their handhelds. It's not deep or challenging, but it holds up as a sincere tool for early learning. If you have a young child or just want to experience a piece of 90s children's gaming, it's worth a quick play.
