Ys III (USA) is a side-scrolling action RPG released for the Sega Genesis in 1992. Originally developed by Nihon Falcom, this US version was published by Renovation Products. Unlike earlier Ys titles that used a top-down perspective and bump-to-attack combat, Ys III shifts to real-time side-scrolling battles where you directly control the hero with a sword. It was one of the early action RPGs on the Genesis, offering a more dynamic experience compared to turn-based RPGs of the era.

Getting Started
Start by speaking with villagers in the town to gather information and find your next objective. The game uses a real-time side-scrolling view where you explore towns and dungeons, slashing enemies with your sword using the B button (S key). Hold B to dash, which helps you avoid attacks and traverse areas faster. Jump (A button, X key) to reach higher platforms or dodge hazards.
The core loop involves entering a dungeon (like the Mines or Castle), fighting through waves of monsters, collecting experience and items, then facing a boss at the end. Leveling up increases your stats, and you can buy equipment at shops with gold earned from defeated foes. Keep an eye on your health; using items or resting at inns restores it. If you die, you restart at the last town save point, retaining your experience and items.
