Vector the Crocodile in Sonic the Hedgehog
About Vector the Crocodile in Sonic the Hedgehog
This is a ROM hack for the SEGA Genesis, specifically Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), that replaces the main character's sprites with Vector the Crocodile from Knuckles' Chaotix. It was created by an independent fan hacker and is not an official Sega release. The hack likely circulates from the early 2000s online modding scene, and it runs on original Genesis hardware or emulators. The genre remains the classic 2D platformer of the original game, with no other changes to level layouts or mechanics beyond the character swap.
How to Play Vector the Crocodile in Sonic the Hedgehog Online
Getting Started
This hack plays identically to the original Sonic the Hedgehog on Genesis. You control Vector as he runs through Green Hill Zone and onward, collecting rings, defeating badniks, and reaching the goal. The core loop is the same: build speed, avoid obstacles, and grab the Chaos Emerald by jumping into the giant ring at the end of each act.
Vector controls just like Sonic in the base game - he runs fast, jumps with the A button (mapped to X on keyboard), and attacks by spinning while jumping. There are no new abilities or altered physics. The only visual difference is the character model. If you have played Sonic 1 before, you already know what to do.
New players should focus on learning the level layouts and how to maintain momentum. Collect at least 50 rings in an act to access the special stage, which requires navigating a rotating maze for an emerald. Dying with more than 50 rings loses all of them, so bank rings at the checkpoint posts when possible. The hack does not change any difficulty or spawns, so it is as forgiving or challenging as the original game.
