How to Play Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (USA) Online
First, press Enter to start. You'll see a title screen and then a character select screen. Press X to choose Sonic or Tails. You can also pick Sonic & Tails together for a two-character mode where Tails follows and can be controlled by a second player. Use the D-Pad to highlight your choice, then press X.
The main objective is to reach the end of each act by going from left to right, avoiding or defeating enemies, collecting rings for protection, and hitting checkpoints. Each zone has three acts; after act 3 you fight a boss (often Robotnik in a mech). Collecting at least one Chaos Emerald in a special stage unlocks the true ending. If you get hit while carrying zero rings, you lose a life. Large ring monitors grant temporary shields.
