Target Earth (USA)
What is Target Earth (USA)?
Target Earth is a run-and-gun title that landed on the SEGA Genesis in 1990. Developed by Masaya, it was originally released in Japan as Assault Suit Leynos. This is the first entry in the Assault Suits series, and it helped define the mech-based shooter genre on the platform. The USA version came with a new title and some localization changes.
You take control of a heavy assault suit and blast through side-scrolling stages overrun by alien forces. The core action involves running and gunning while managing your suit's energy and weapon loadouts. Collect power-ups from fallen enemies and hidden capsules to upgrade your armaments. The game throws waves of enemies and tough bosses at you, demanding quick reflexes and smart weapon usage.
For a game from 1990, Target Earth still holds up as a solid shooter with a distinct sci-fi atmosphere. It sits comfortably alongside other Genesis run-and-guns but stands out because of its mech theme and weapon system. If you enjoy challenging side-scrollers with a heavy feel, this one is worth checking out. Just be ready for some punishing difficulty.

Section 2 - Getting Started:
When you start Target Earth, the title screen shows options for 1 Player or 2 Players. Press Start to begin. You control your mech through a series of scrolling levels. The main goal is to reach the end of each stage while defeating enemies and bosses.
The B button fires your current weapon, while the A button lets you jump. You can switch weapons by picking up new ones from capsules. Keep an eye on your armor gauge - if it depletes, you lose a life. The game is tough, so learn enemy patterns and use the environment to your advantage.
