Sonic the Hedgehog Megadriven is a fan-made demo created for the Sonic Hacking Contest, specifically the 2022 edition (SHC). It's a hack of the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Genesis, reimagining the classic platformer with new level layouts and tweaks. The demo was likely submitted as an entry to the contest, showcasing the creator's modding skills. As a homebrew-style modification, it retains the core 16-bit aesthetic and physics of the original while offering a fresh experience. Players control Sonic as he runs through a customized stage, collecting rings, avoiding spikes, and smashing robots. The gameplay follows the familiar loop of speeding from left to right, jumping on enemies, and reaching the goal sign. The demo likely includes at least one fully playable zone, though the exact mechanics remain faithful to the original game's design. No new characters or story elements are introduced; this is a pure level-based modification. For fans of Sonic hacks, this demo offers a brief but interesting look into the creativity of the modding community. It's not a full game or a commercial release, but a short slice of what a custom level might feel like. If you enjoy exploring how old games can be reworked by fans, this is worth a quick play. Just don't expect a lengthy experience - it's a contest entry meant to demonstrate skill rather than provide hours of content.

How to play Sonic the Hedgehog Megadriven online

Getting Started: After loading the game, you'll find yourself in a modified version of Green Hill Zone or a similar grassy stage. The goal is simple: run to the right as fast as you can while avoiding hazards. Collect rings to survive hits and bouncing on enemies to defeat them. Watch out for spikes and bottomless pits. Your character controls with responsive physics - hold the D-Pad to move, press X to jump, and release a spin dash by holding down then pressing jump. The demo likely ends after one or two acts, so focus on reaching the goal sign to see what the modder has created. There are no special items or alternate routes to worry about; just classic Sonic fun. Since this is a hacker's creation, expect some changes to enemy placement and platform layouts. The core loop remains true to the original: speed through the level, collect rings, and finish. If you die, you restart from the beginning of the act. No save features exist in this demo.
