Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Limited Edition

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Limited Edition (1994-05-17) is the third core entry in the classic Sonic series, landing on the SEGA Genesis during the platformer golden age. Developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega, this version was released in 1994 and is often noted for its refined level design and the introduction of a save feature. The "Limited Edition" label points to a specific build or bundle, but the core game remains the same beloved action-platformer that defined the 16-bit era. As with its predecessors, players guide Sonic (or Tails) through vibrant zones, each split into multiple acts. The gameplay revolves around high-speed running, precise jumping, and collecting rings for protection and extra lives. New to this installment are the special stages that task players with collecting blue spheres and achieving transformations using the Chaos Emeralds. The controls emphasize momentum and careful platforming, with the D-pad for movement, the A button for jumps, and the B button for spin dashes and attacks. Sonic 3 holds a special place in the library as one of the most polished platformers of the era. Its graphics pushed the Genesis hardware, and its music, composed in part by Michael Jackson's team, added a distinct groove. Even today, it stands as a masterclass in level design and pacing. While the "Limited Edition" variant may not offer extra content beyond the original, the base game remains a must-play for anyone exploring retro platformers on the console.
