Unofficial ROM hack. The notes below come from community sources and have not been verified against the patch itself, so levels, mechanics and features may differ from what is described.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Time and Place is a ROM hack of the classic SEGA Genesis title Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was created by an unknown author and appears to have been released online as a fan modification rather than an official commercial product. Like its base game, it runs on the SEGA Genesis hardware (or emulators) and belongs to the platformer genre that defined the 16-bit era. Gameplay in Time and Place is built on the same foundation as Sonic 2. You control Sonic (and optionally Tails as a partner) through side-scrolling levels at high speed. The core loop involves collecting rings, defeating enemies by jumping on them, and reaching the goal at the end of each zone. Since this is a hack, the level layouts, enemy placements, or even the order of zones may be altered compared to the original game. However, the basic mechanics of spin-jumping, rolling, and using checkpoints remain unchanged. What makes this hack worth a look is the novelty of experiencing familiar Sonic 2 gameplay in a rearranged or retooled form. It is not a complete overhaul or a new story, but rather a reinterpretation of the original levels under a different design philosophy. For fans who have played Sonic 2 to death, Time and Place offers a fresh set of challenges without needing to learn entirely new mechanics. Just keep in mind that it is a fan project, so polish and balance may vary from the official release.

How to play Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Time and Place online

Getting Started Start by choosing a save file or selecting "New Game" on the title screen using the Enter key (Start). Since this is a hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the opening sequence and menus should be in English just like the original. You will see the familiar options: Start, Options (for sound test and level select if enabled), and possibly a level select if the hacker included it. Your main goal is to race through each zone while collecting rings and avoiding enemies. Rings act as health; if you get hit while carrying at least one ring, you lose the rings instead of dying. If you get hit with zero rings, you lose a life. Reach the end of the stage before the timer runs out to proceed. The core loop is simple: run, jump, spin into enemies, and reach the goal ring. New players should take note of the spin dash - hold down the B button (S key) while crouching, release to blast forward. This lets you gain momentum quickly. Also keep an eye out for checkpoints (lampposts) that save your progress within a stage. If you die, you restart from the last checkpoint rather than the beginning of the zone. Remember that this is a hack, so some level layouts may be more challenging or less refined than the original. Take your time to learn the new paths.
