Unofficial ROM hack. The notes below come from community sources and have not been verified against the patch itself, so levels, mechanics and features may differ from what is described.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Super Edition is a ROM hack of the classic SEGA Genesis platformer Sonic the Hedgehog 2. This fan-made modification takes the original game and applies a variety of tweaks and enhancements, though specific details on its origin and creator are not widely documented. It runs on the same hardware as the base game and is typically played through emulation or flash carts. Gameplay follows the same structure as Sonic 2: you control Sonic (and sometimes Tails) through side-scrolling zones, collecting rings, defeating enemies, and racing to the goal. The "Super Edition" label suggests altered level layouts, modified speed or physics, and possibly new or remixed elements compared to the original. Players must still navigate loops, springs, and obstacles while managing rings and avoiding hazards. For retro gaming enthusiasts who have played Sonic 2 to death, this hack offers a fresh take on a familiar classic. It is not an official release, so expect minor quirks or unfinished areas. Worth trying if you enjoy seeing how the community remixes beloved games, but it is best approached as a novelty rather than a polished alternative to the original.

How to play Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - Super Edition online

Getting Started When you start the game, press Enter to skip the title screen or Start to begin. You will see a level selection or just jump into Green Hill Zone. The core loop is the same as Sonic 2: run right, collect rings, avoid badniks, and hit the goal post at the end of each act. You can spindash by holding down and pressing jump (A button) while on the ground. Because this is a hack, some levels may have altered layouts or new obstacles. Keep an eye out for changes in enemy placement and terrain. Rings are your main defense - if you get hit without rings, you lose a life. Collecting 50 rings in a level allows you to warp to a bonus stage at checkpoints, but these may also be modified. If you are playing on a keyboard, get used to the controls quickly: jump with X, spindash with down+X, and use the arrow keys for movement. There is no tutorial, so jump in and experiment. Expect the same fast-paced action with a twist.
