Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Anniversary Edition - Pink Update

This is a fan made hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the SEGA Genesis, entered into a ROM hacking contest in 2022 under the title "Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Anniversary Edition - Pink Update." As a mod rather than an official release, it remixes Sega's classic 16 bit platformer with a distinct visual twist: the playable character appears to have been recolored in shades of pink, giving the game a unique, if simple, aesthetic change. The exact creator is not widely documented, but the entry was hosted on the shc.zone contest website, a known gathering place for Genesis ROM hackers. The core gameplay remains identical to the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Players guide Sonic (or possibly Tails, depending on the mod's choices) through a series of side scrolling levels, running at high speed, collecting gold rings, and defeating enemies by jumping on them or rolling into them. The goal of each zone is to reach the end signpost before the timer runs out. Hidden bonus stages, special stage rings, and loop de loops are all part of the standard Sonic 2 experience that this mod preserves, with the pink palette being the primary differentiator. For fans of classic platformers and ROM hacks, this version offers a light twist on a familiar adventure. It does not introduce new levels, music, or story, but the recolored sprites give the game a fresh look for players who have already beaten the original many times. The hack is niche and best appreciated by those curious about the creative scene around Genesis games. It is a straightforward curiosity rather than a major overhaul, but worth a quick playthrough if you enjoy seeing old favorites through a different lens.
