Getting Started

When you load the game, you are presented with a level select screen. Use the D-Pad to highlight a zone and press the A button (X key) to start playing. You can choose any zone from the start - there is no need to unlock stages. The core loop is straightforward: run to the right, collect rings, avoid or stomp enemies, and reach the giant ring at the end of the act to progress.

This hack introduces a unique shield system. Red monitors give you a flame shield that protects from lava damage, blue monitors grant a water shield for underwater sections, and so on. The shields are one-time use - if you get hit while wearing one, the shield breaks but you keep your rings. Pay close attention to the monitor colors and plan your path accordingly, as some areas are extremely dangerous without the right protection.

The level design is more demanding than the original Sonic 2, with tighter jumps and more hazards. Take your time to learn enemy patterns and memorize safe routes. The game has no save feature, so use emulator save states if you need to stop mid-session. If you get stuck, try a different zone - the difficulty varies between stages.
