Sonic New Edition v0.001 (S1 Hack)
Sonic New Edition v0.001 (S1 Hack) - Platformer Classic
Sonic New Edition v0.001 is an early ROM hack of the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Genesis, released as a fan-made experiment rather than an official product. It came out sometime after the original game's 1991 debut, but specific dates or author information are not widely documented. As a hack, it modifies the classic platformer with alternate level layouts, changed enemy placements, and tweaked visuals, offering a fresh take on a familiar run.
How to Play Sonic New Edition v0.001 (S1 Hack) Online
Getting Started
Start the game and press Start to begin a new playthrough. You control Sonic as he runs through Green Hill Zone, now altered from the original version with different rings, badnik placements, and occasional graphical swaps. The core objective remains reaching the end of each act by collecting rings, avoiding enemies, and using spin dashes to gain speed.
Because this is an early v0.001 build, expect bugs and unbalanced sections. Some springs may behave oddly, and certain areas might require trial-and-error to navigate safely. There is no save feature; your progress is lost once you turn off the system or close the emulator. Focus on learning the new level layouts and adapting your timing for jumps.
The hack retains Sonic's basic moves: jump on enemies to defeat them, hold down and press jump to perform a spin dash, and collect 50 rings to access the special stage via a giant ring. Be mindful of ring loss when hit - you drop all rings but can retrieve some if you're quick enough. This is strictly a single-player experience, so just enjoy the modified classic run.
