How to play Sonic in Colored Zone online
Getting Started
When you boot Sonic in Colored Zone, you'll be greeted by the familiar title screen of the base Sonic game, likely Sonic the Hedgehog 1 or 2. Press Enter to start. You'll be placed into the first zone - the colors will be noticeably different from the original. Use the D-Pad (Arrow Keys) to move left and right, and press X to jump. Hold X while moving to perform a spin dash. The goal is to reach the end of each act by collecting rings and avoiding or destroying enemies.
The core loop is exactly like any classic Sonic game: run fast, collect gold rings, hit badniks, and reach the goalpost before the 10-minute timer expires. Rings act as a buffer - if you get hit while holding rings, they scatter, but you survive. If you get hit with zero rings, you lose a life. Special stages are accessible via giant rings in certain acts, which let you collect Chaos Emeralds for a better ending. Because this is a hack that only changes colors, all level layouts and enemy placements remain the same as the original game.
Since the hack's main feature is the altered color palette, you may want to adjust your monitor or display brightness to make sure you can see all platforms clearly. Some color combinations can make certain elements blend into the background - if a section feels impossibly difficult, it might just be the weird coloring hiding a platform or item. No special tricks are needed beyond standard Sonic proficiency; this is a purely cosmetic modification.

Sonic in Colored Zone FAQ
Who developed Sonic in Colored Zone?
The developer of this ROM hack is not widely documented. Like many small fan projects from the early 2000s, its creator remains anonymous or was credited only in obscure forums that are now hard to trace.
Is Sonic in Colored Zone exclusive to SEGA Genesis or did it appear on other systems?
This hack was built specifically for the SEGA Genesis ROM of a classic Sonic game. It has not been officially ported to any other platform; any versions on other systems would be separate fan projects with the same name.
Is Sonic in Colored Zone an official release, a fan hack, a prototype, or another kind of build?
Sonic in Colored Zone is a fan-made ROM hack. It is not an official Sega release, a prototype, or a homebrew original; it modifies an existing commercial Sonic game by recoloring its graphics.
