Press Enter to start the game. You'll see the title screen - this hack doesn't change the menus much from Sonic 2, so just hit Start again to begin a new game. You control Sonic using the D-Pad to move left and right, and press X to jump. Hold down the D-Pad while jumping to roll into a spin dash, then release to blast forward.

The core loop is classic Sonic: run fast, collect rings, stomp on enemies, and reach the end of the level. Rings act as health - if you get hit while holding rings, they scatter and you lose some; if you have no rings, getting hit kills you. Watch out for spikes and bottomless pits. The level layouts in Sonic Green Snake 4.0 can be unpredictable, so take your time learning each section.

There is no save feature or level select in this hack; you play through from Green Hill Zone onward until you game over or finish. If you lose all lives, you get a continue screen. A little trial and error is expected - don't be surprised if you fall through a glitched floor or get stuck on invisible walls. It's part of the bootleg charm.
