The hack is built directly on the Sonic 2 engine, but dramatically alters the original levels and difficulty curve, making it a well-known specimen among enthusiasts who hunt for community-crafted modifications.
How to Play Sonic ERaZor Online
Getting Started
Since Sonic ERaZor is a hack of Sonic 2, the core loop remains the same: you control Sonic or Tails, run through levels from left to right, jump on enemies, collect rings, and reach the goal. The first thing you will notice is that the level order has been rearranged and many stages are substantially harder than in the official game. You do not need to read Japanese because the menus are in English (the hack was made in English).
Expect spikes, traps, and enemy placements designed to catch you off guard. The physics are identical to Sonic 2, so spin-jump timing, rolling, and spin-dash are second nature if you have played the original. There are no new power-ups or gimmicks beyond what Sonic 2 offers. The main challenge lies in memorizing the altered layouts and surviving the erratic enemy patterns. Take things slowly at first; rushing will likely cost you rings and lives quickly.
