Sonic 3D Blast (USA, Europe)
Sonic 3D Blast (USA, Europe): Genesis Platformer
Sonic 3D Blast landed on the SEGA Genesis in 1996, a time when the industry was obsessed with polygonal 3D but home consoles still relied on clever tricks. Often subtitled Flickies' Island, this game is an isometric action-adventure title that pushes the Genesis hardware into pseudo-3D territory. It was developed jointly by Traveller's Tales and Sonic Team, published by Sega, and released across North America and Europe. Unlike the mainline side-scrollers, this one takes Sonic into a fixed-angle perspective where depth is simulated through scaling and layering.
How to Play Sonic 3D Blast (USA, Europe) Online
Getting Started
Step into Sonic's shoes and explore each isometric stage with a single goal: gather every Flicky hiding in the level. The little birds are tucked inside floating capsules, under monitors, or behind breakable walls. Smash open a capsule and the Flicky will start hopping behind you in a small train. Your job is to lead that train to a giant golden ring at the end of the zone. If you get hit by an enemy, the Flicky scatters and you have to recollect it.
Moving in an isometric world takes a moment to get used to. The arrow keys let you walk in eight directions, but jumping with X and attacking with S feel familiar to any Sonic fan. Each stage has multiple paths and a time limit, so keep moving. When you collect five Flickies and bring them to a ring switch, you can activate a bonus stage for extra chaos emeralds. Your ultimate goal is to reach Dr. Robotnik at the end of each zone and free all the Flickies from the island.
