Getting Started

When you load up Sonic 3 & Knuckles Painto Edition, the game starts like the original. You pick one of three characters: Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. Each has different abilities - Sonic can spin-dash, Tails can fly briefly, and Knuckles can climb walls and glide. The core loop is the same: race through levels from left to right, grab rings to survive hits, and defeat badniks by jumping on them or rolling into them.

Since this is a modified version, you might notice changed stage layouts or new obstacles. Try exploring each zone carefully; some paths may lead to alternate routes or hidden areas. If the hack introduces new mechanics, they usually follow the same controls. If you get stuck, remember you can switch characters at the title screen to see if a different ability helps.

There are no in-game saves in this hack - like the original, progress is tracked via level select passwords or emulator save states. For a full experience, play through all the acts and then the bonus stages to collect Chaos Emeralds. Keep an eye on the ring counter; losing all rings after a hit means you die, and you'll restart the act.
