How to play Sonic 3&K Mania Edition online

Getting Started

When the game boots, you will see a title screen identifying the mod. Press Start to proceed. You will then be asked to choose your character: Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. Each has slightly different abilities: Sonic can spindash and has the insta-shield, Tails can fly for a short time, and Knuckles can glide and climb walls. Pick whichever suits your play style.

The game immediately throws you into Angel Island Zone Act 1. The core loop is simple: run to the right, avoid or destroy enemies, collect rings, and reach the giant ring at the end to pass the act. Special stages are accessed by jumping into giant rings hidden in certain acts. Collect enough Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic (or Super Tails / Super Knuckles) when you have 50 rings.

Because this is a mod, there are no instruction manuals or in-game tutorials. If you are familiar with the original Sonic 3 & Knuckles, you will be right at home. If you are new, just keep moving forward and watch out for traps. The game saves automatically after each act if played on emulated SRAM, but on real hardware you may need a backup cartridge. No text is in Japanese, as this mod is English-only.
