Sonic 2 Aluminium Edition Version 3.1
Sonic 2 Aluminium Edition Version 3.1 Overview
Sonic 2 Aluminium Edition Version 3.1 is a ROM hack of the classic SEGA Genesis title Sonic the Hedgehog 2. This fan-made modification, created by a hacker known as Aluminium Hacker, reworks many of the original game's levels and mechanics to offer a different experience. Released as a free download for emulators or flash carts, it was never sold commercially and exists purely as a passion project for retro enthusiasts looking for fresh takes on familiar stages.
How to Play Sonic 2 Aluminium Edition Version 3.1 Online
To start playing Sonic 2 Aluminium Edition Version 3.1, press Enter to move past the title screen. You control Sonic as he runs through modified zones based on the original Sonic 2 layout. The core objective remains the same: reach the end of each act by collecting rings, avoiding spikes and enemy robots, and eventually confronting Dr. Robotnik at the end of the zone.
Your basic moves are running with the D-Pad (arrow keys) and jumping with X (A button). While running, you can press X to spin dash by holding down and then jumping. Collecting at least 50 rings lets you access a special ring in some stages to attempt a bonus stage. Rings also protect you from one hit, but you lose them all when struck. If you get hit without any rings, you lose a life and restart from a checkpoint.
This hack modifies enemy placements, terrain, and sometimes even the background scenery, so even if you know the original Sonic 2 cold, expect surprises. There is no save feature built into the ROM; you can use the emulator's save state function to keep progress. The game is in English, so menus are straightforward.
