Sonic 1 - Rerouted
About Sonic 1 - Rerouted
Sonic 1 - Rerouted is a ROM hack for the SEGA Genesis that takes the original Sonic the Hedgehog and remixes its level layouts. It was created by a fan, though the exact author isn't widely documented, and it falls under the growing library of user-made modifications from the early 2000s onward. This isn't an official release - it's a passion project meant for emulators or flash carts, offering a fresh take on a classic platformer without altering the core physics or sprites.
How to Play Sonic 1 - Rerouted Online
Getting started is straightforward: load the game in your browser emulator and press Enter to start. You play as Sonic, running through Green Hill Zone, Marble Zone, and the other familiar areas - but each act has been rerouted, meaning paths, platforms, and sometimes entire sections are different from the original 1991 game. The goal remains the same: reach the end of each act, collect rings, avoid spikes and enemies, and defeat Dr. Robotnik at the end of each zone.
Because this is a level layout hack, the usual Sonic 1 mechanics apply: hold the D-Pad to run, press S to spin dash (hold down and jump), and use X to jump. Expect some traps and alternate routes that may surprise even veterans. There's no save feature, so you'll want to finish a zone in one sitting or use emulator savestates. If you're stuck, remember that the original game's secrets don't always transfer - explore every new path.
