Sonic 1 and 2
Sonic 1 and 2 on Genesis
Sonic 1 and 2 is a fan-made ROM hack for the SEGA Genesis that merges both Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 into a single modified ROM. It was created by an unknown enthusiast and never received an official commercial release. As a platformer, it keeps the core physics and level design of the original two games intact, but reorganizes them into a combined experience that's only playable via emulation or a flash cart.
How to Play Sonic 1 and 2 Online
Getting Started
When you boot up Sonic 1 and 2, you'll likely see a title screen that lets you choose which game to play first. This hack presents the zones from both original games in a linear sequence, so you start with Green Hill Zone from Sonic 1. Use the D-pad to move Sonic left and right, and press the X button to jump. Spindash is available by holding down and pressing the jump button, then releasing.
The core loop is classic Sonic: run through each act, collect rings for protection, defeat badniks by jumping on them or using a spin attack, and reach the goal post to clear the act. Rings act as a shield - if you get hit without rings, you lose a life. Aim to collect the Chaos Emeralds in special stages that appear when you pass a checkpoint with 50 or more rings. The hack combines all of Sonic 1's and Sonic 2's zones, but it lacks any multiplayer mode.
