Snow Bros. - Nick & Tom (Japan)
Snow Bros. - Nick & Tom (Japan) Overview
Snow Bros. - Nick & Tom (Japan) is a Japan-exclusive port of the classic arcade game for the SEGA Genesis. Released sometime in the early 1990s, this version brings the original arcade action home without major changes. The exact developer and publisher are not widely documented, but the game is clearly modeled after the Bubble Bobble formula. You control one of two snowmen brothers, Nick or Tom, and the goal is to clear each room of enemies by freezing them.
In each stage, you jump between platforms and blast snow at enemies, turning them into snowmen. Once frozen, you can kick them across the screen to defeat other baddies or simply knock them off the stage. The core loop is straightforward: clear all enemies to advance to the next level. Some stages include a boss fight that requires more careful timing. Power-ups appear occasionally, like speed boosts or extra snow range. Co-op play is available, letting a second player join as the other brother.
Snow Bros. is a fun, simple arcade platformer that holds up well today. It does not reinvent the genre but executes its core concept with tight controls and colorful visuals. The challenge ramps up gradually, and the co-op mode adds enjoyable teamwork. For fans of Bubble Bobble or similar arcade staples, this Genesis version is worth playing if you can find it. It is a niche title but one that captures arcade spirit faithfully.
How to Play Snow Bros. - Nick & Tom (Japan) Online
Getting Started
Boot up the game and you will see a title screen in Japanese. Press Start to proceed to the main menu. Use the D-Pad to select between one-player or two-player co-op mode, then press X to confirm. The game immediately begins with Nick (or Tom) in the first stage. There is no story intro to sit through.
Your goal in each room is to freeze every enemy using the snow attack (S button). Enemies covered in snow turn into snowballs and freeze in place. Walk into them to roll them, then kick them into other enemies or obstacles to clear them. Avoid being touched by unfrozen enemies or their projectiles. Power-ups float down occasionally; grab them for extra speed, more snow, or a temporary shield. Clearing all enemies opens the exit.
Since this is a Japanese version, menu text is in Japanese. Luckily, the menus are minimal: you mainly choose player count and start. The gameplay itself requires no reading. Co-op is recommended as it makes the game more manageable and fun. The difficulty escalates as you progress, with more enemies and trickier platform layouts. Keep moving and do not let enemies corner you.
