S1Fixed Beta
S1Fixed Beta: Genesis Platformer
S1Fixed Beta is a fan-made modification of the original Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Genesis, specifically a beta build intended to address bugs and glitches present in the base game. It was created by RetroKoH and released as a free patch, not an official commercial title. This is a classic platformer built on the same engine as Sonic 1, keeping the blue blur's signature speed and loop-de-loop stages.
Players control Sonic as he dashes through Green Hill Zone, Marble Zone, and other familiar acts, collecting rings and defeating Badniks. The core loop remains unchanged: reach the end of each level by jumping between platforms, rolling into enemies, and hitting checkpoints. What sets this version apart are targeted fixes - such as patched collision detection or corrected level tile behavior - though exact changes are not fully documented in this beta. The game plays identically to the original outside of those tweaks.
For Sonic fans who have played the original to death, S1Fixed Beta offers a cleaned-up experience that removes some of the rough edges that have been known for decades. It is not a full overhaul, so do not expect new levels or features. If you enjoy seeing classic games polished by the modding community, this is worth a quick playthrough. Just keep in mind it is labeled beta, so some fixes may be incomplete.
How to Play S1Fixed Beta Online
Getting Started
Start the game, and you will be greeted by the title screen. Press Enter to start a new game. You play as Sonic in Green Hill Zone, the first level. Your goal is to reach the end of each act by moving right, jumping over pits, and defeating enemies (Badniks) by rolling into them while spinning. Collect rings to protect yourself from damage - if you get hit while carrying rings, they scatter and you must recollect them before they disappear. If hit with zero rings, you lose a life.
The core loop is simple: run through each zone, collect rings and power-ups like speed shoes and invincibility, avoid spikes and bottomless pits, and hit the signpost at the end of each act to progress. After finishing all three acts of a zone (plus a bonus stage between acts), you move to the next zone. S1Fixed Beta follows the exact same structure as the original Sonic 1, so anyone who has played the classic will feel right at home. Since this is a beta build, do not be surprised if some fixes are not fully implemented - report bugs to the author if you encounter them.
