Rainbow Islands Extra (Japan)
Rainbow Islands Extra (Japan): Genesis Platformer
Rainbow Islands Extra is a Japanese-exclusive version of the classic arcade platformer, released on the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) in the early 1990s. It is based on Taito's original Rainbow Islands arcade game, which followed the success of Bubble Bobble. This port was published by Taito and includes additional stages and tweaks not found in the original release, making it a distinct experience for Japanese players who owned the console.
How to Play Rainbow Islands Extra (Japan) Online
Getting Started
Start the game by pressing the Enter key on the title screen. Since this is a Japanese release, menus and text are in Japanese, but the core gameplay is straightforward: you control a character who shoots rainbows upward. Use the arrow keys to move left and right, and press S to shoot a rainbow. The rainbows solidify and can be used as platforms to climb higher.
Your goal on each stage is to reach the top while avoiding enemies and collecting items. Enemies are defeated by dropping rainbows on them or hitting them from above. The rainbows disappear after a few seconds, so plan your jumps carefully. Collecting power-ups changes the color and properties of your rainbows - for example, a red rainbow might produce fireballs. The game has multiple rounds, each ending with a boss fight. If you die, you restart the stage, but you have limited lives.
