Getting Started

This is a hack of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog for Genesis. You control Sonic as you run through familiar Green Hill Zone and beyond. The core loop is exactly like the original: speed through each act, avoid enemies and obstacles, collect rings, and reach the goal sign before time runs out. The only difference is every ring is a red ring, which still acts as a shield against damage but disappears when hit. Since the hack changes nothing else, all the original mechanics, level layouts, and physics remain intact.

Begin by pressing Enter to start a new game. Use the D-Pad to move Sonic left or right and to duck. Use the A button to jump, and the B button to roll into a spin attack while jumping. Collect 100 rings in any act to earn an extra life, and grab power-ups like speed shoes and invincibility from monitors. The game is entirely in English, so menus are easy to navigate. If you have played any Sonic game on Genesis, you already know what to do.

One tip: since red rings are visually distinct, they can be easier to spot against certain backgrounds. But don't let the color change trick you into thinking they behave differently - they do not. The hack is purely cosmetic, so your strategy remains the same. Just run, jump, and have fun with a fresh palette on a classic.
