NBA Pro Basketball - Bulls Vs Lakers is a Japanese-exclusive basketball game for the SEGA Genesis. Released only in Japan, it focuses on the rivalry between the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, though it offers a full roster of NBA teams. The genre is straightforward sports simulation, typical of early 90s console basketball titles. While the exact publisher and developer are not widely documented, the game was part of a small wave of region-specific sports releases that never saw a Western launch. The player controls a team in five-on-five basketball matches. Gameplay involves passing, shooting, stealing, and rebounding using a two-button control scheme. The game includes basic modes like exhibition and possibly a season format. Matches follow standard NBA rules with timed quarters. The AI provides a moderate challenge, and the controls respond adequately for the era. Menus are in Japanese, so navigating them might require some trial and error or a translation guide. Today, this title is a curiosity for retro basketball fans and Genesis collectors. Its main appeal lies in the Bulls vs Lakers branding and its status as a Japan-only release. It does not offer anything revolutionary compared to contemporary basketball games like NBA Jam or EA's NBA Live series, but it captures the authentic early 90s sports gaming feel. If you enjoy exploring the less mainstream corners of the Genesis library, this is a solid pickup, though it may not hold your interest for long without English support.

How to play NBA Pro Basketball - Bulls Vs Lakers online

Getting Started When you boot the game, you will see a title screen with Japanese text. Press Start (Enter) to proceed to the main menu. The menu options are in Japanese, but you can typically select "ゲームスタート" (Game Start) for a quick exhibition match. Use the D-Pad (Arrow keys) to move between options and press A (X) to confirm. Once in the team selection screen, you can choose any NBA team. The default selection usually highlights the Bulls or Lakers. After selecting your team, choose the opponent. The game then loads into a standard five-on-five basketball match. The core loop involves moving your players with the D-Pad, passing with B (S) while near teammates, and shooting by pressing B near the basket. Use the Turbo button (Y / Z) to sprint. The game follows basic basketball rules: dribble, pass, shoot, and defend. If you have the ball and hold the D-Pad toward the basket while pressing B, your player attempts a layup or dunk. For jump shots, release the D-Pad or press B while standing. Defense is about staying close to the opponent and pressing B to steal or block. If you are new to Japanese sports games, trial and error is fine since the controls are responsive and the gameplay is intuitive after a few minutes.
