Mystic Defender (USA, Europe): Genesis Action

Mystic Defender is an action game for the Sega Genesis, released in 1989. It came out in both North America and Europe, and is the western version of the Japanese title Kujaku Ou 2. The game is a direct sequel to SpellCaster (known as Kujaku Ou in Japan) and was developed and published by Sega. You play as Joe Yamato, a warrior called upon to stop the evil god Zao from destroying the world. The side-scrolling action is packed with platforming and magic-heavy combat, drawing on the same mythological themes as its predecessor.

How to Play Mystic Defender (USA, Europe) Online

Getting Started Press Start at the title screen to begin. You start on the first stage, moving from left to right through enemy-filled areas. The game is a side-scrolling action platformer - your primary goal is to reach the end of each level while defeating enemies and avoiding hazards.

Joe's main attack is a magic projectile fired with the B button (S key). As you progress, you can pick up colored orbs that change your magic type, giving you different attack patterns, spread shots, and even a protective barrier. Experiment with these to see which works best against the various monsters and bosses. The game is single-player only and quite challenging, so learn enemy patterns and use the jump (A button, X key) to dodge when needed.
