Unofficial ROM hack. The notes below come from community sources and have not been verified against the patch itself, so levels, mechanics and features may differ from what is described.

Metal Sonic Rebooted SHC2017 is a ROM hack for the SEGA Genesis, created for the Sonic Hacking Contest in 2017. It puts you in control of Metal Sonic, one of the iconic rivals from the Sonic series, in a set of custom levels designed specifically for a Genesis platformer. This is a fan-made modification, not an official Sega release, so expect experimental level design and a focus on speed and precision. The gameplay follows the classic 2D Sonic formula: you run through side-scrolling stages, jump over pits, defeat enemies by spinning into them, and collect rings for protection. As Metal Sonic, you may have different physics or abilities compared to the regular blue hedgehog, though the core loop remains fast-paced platforming from start to goal. Each level ends with a signpost, and there are multiple acts to clear. For fans of Genesis Sonic hacks, Metal Sonic Rebooted SHC2017 offers a fresh take on a familiar character, with levels that test your reflexes and knowledge of Sonic movement. It's a small, focused entry from the hacking community - short but challenging, and worth a play if you enjoy seeing how modders reinterpret the source material. Don't expect a full campaign; it's more of a showpiece from a contest.

How to play Metal Sonic Rebooted SHC2017 online

In this ROM hack, you take control of Metal Sonic from the moment the game boots. The first thing you'll see is a title screen - press Enter to start, then select a level from the menu using the D-Pad and the A button (X on keyboard). The hack likely includes a handful of custom stages designed around Metal Sonic's abilities. The core gameplay loop is straightforward: run to the right, dodge obstacles, defeat or avoid badniks, and collect rings to survive hits. Hitting spikes or falling into pits costs you a life. Each level ends with a goal post, and you progress through acts. There is no saving, so you'll need to finish the game in one sitting. If you lose all lives, you get a game over and must start from the beginning. New players should focus on learning the level layouts and Metal Sonic's acceleration. Unlike regular Sonic, certain hams tweak physics or add unique moves - test the buttons to see if you can dash or fly briefly. Watch for bottomless pits and enemy patterns. The challenge is moderate, aimed at seasoned Sonic players.
