Megaman X in Sonic 2 is a fan-made ROM hack for the SEGA Genesis that replaces Sonic with Megaman X inside the levels of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was created by an independent modder (mike64) and released as a free download through the itch.io and retrogames.cc platforms. This is not an official Capcom or Sega product; rather, it is a creative crossover built on top of the original Sonic 2 code, likely intended as a tribute or experiment for fans of both franchises. The player controls a character based on Megaman X, navigating the familiar zones of Sonic 2 - Green Hill Zone, Chemical Plant Zone, and others - using a modified moveset. The core gameplay revolves around running, jumping, and attacking enemies while collecting rings and reaching the end of each act. Enemies and stage hazards remain similar to the original game, but the character's physics and abilities may differ from Sonic's, offering a different feel while retaining the classic level design. As a ROM hack, Megaman X in Sonic 2 is a niche curiosity rather than a polished commercial title. Its appeal comes from the sheer novelty of seeing a beloved Capcom character placed into a Sega classic. Fans of either series may enjoy the experiment, but the hack is uneven and best appreciated as a piece of fan creativity. It remains a lightweight, browser-playable oddity for those curious about ROM hacking or crossover mashups.

How to play Megaman X in Sonic 2 online

The game boots directly into the title screen of a modified Sonic 2 ROM. Press Enter to start a new game. You will see a level select or immediately begin in Green Hill Zone, depending on the hack's setup. Use arrow keys to move Megaman X left and right, X to jump, and S to fire his weapon (likely his arm cannon). The core loop is identical to Sonic 2: run from left to right, collect rings, avoid spikes and enemies, and reach the starpost at the end of each act. Most of the original Sonic 2 level structure is intact, but Megaman X handles differently - he may have a dash or wall jump, though this varies per hack version. Be prepared for altered collision or enemy behavior. The game saves progress via level codes or passwords if included; otherwise, you restart from the beginning. Experiment with the buttons to discover any added moves, and enjoy the unusual crossover of characters and aesthetics.
