Megaman - The Wily Wars (USA)
Megaman - The Wily Wars (USA) Overview
You control Mega Man through eight robot master stages in each of the first three games, using your blaster to defeat enemies and collecting special weapons from bosses. The core loop involves choosing a stage, fighting through obstacles, beating the robot master, then using his weapon against others. After completing all three remakes, you can unlock a new campaign called Wily Tower, which throws you into a gauntlet of new stages and bosses with all weapons available from the start.
What makes Wily Wars stand out is how it faithfully recreates the original Mega Man experience while adding a fresh coat of paint for the Genesis. The Wily Tower bonus content provides a satisfying challenge for series veterans who already know the NES games inside out. It's a solid port collection with a worthwhile extra, though the Genesis controller's button layout takes some getting used to for Mega Man veterans.
How to Play Megaman - The Wily Wars (USA) Online
Getting Started
When you boot up Mega Man: The Wily Wars, you'll see a menu letting you choose between Mega Man 1, 2, 3, and a locked Wily Tower option. Pick a game to start. The controls are remapped for the Genesis: jump with X, shoot with S, and use special weapons by pressing Z (or A after selecting a weapon). You can switch weapons by pressing Enter to pause, then selecting with the D-Pad and pressing A or S to confirm.
Your first goal is to choose a stage from the robot master select screen. Each stage ends with a boss fight. Defeating a boss gives you their special weapon, which you can then use against other bosses who are weak to it. The game auto-saves your progress after each stage, and you can continue from your save file later. To unlock Wily Tower, you need to complete all three games on the same save file. Once unlocked, you can play it from the main menu.
Be prepared for the Genesis controller's layout: the A button is jump and confirm, B is shoot and cancel, and Y/X handle weapon switching and other actions. If you're used to the NES versions, the different button feel might take a few minutes to adjust, but the gameplay remains the same solid platforming action you remember.
