Mega SWIV is a top-down shooter that hit the Sega Genesis in Europe during the early 1990s. It was also known as Firepower 2000 in North America and Super SWIV on other systems. The game lets you blast through waves of enemies from either a flying helicopter or a ground-based jeep, each with unique handling and weapon loadouts. While the exact developer and publisher aren't widely documented for this specific European release, the core concept comes from the classic SWIV arcade lineage. The player picks one of the two vehicles at the start and then scrolls upward through enemy-filled stages. You shoot everything that moves, collect power-ups to upgrade your weapons, and dodge incoming fire. The helicopter can move freely in all directions, while the jeep stays on the ground but can strafe. Boss fights appear at the end of each area, demanding quick reflexes and pattern recognition. It's a straightforward but satisfying run-and-gun experience. Today, Mega SWIV holds up as a solid entry in the Genesis shooter library. It's not the deepest game, but the dual-vehicle mechanic gives it a little replay value. Fans of overhead shooters like Vapor Trail or Super Smash TV will feel at home here. If you enjoy classic arcade-style blasting with a friend via co-op, this European exclusive port is worth checking out for its faithful adaptation of the original arcade feel.

How to play Mega SWIV online

At the title screen, press Enter to start. You'll then pick either the helicopter or the jeep using the D-Pad and confirm with X (A button). The helicopter flies freely and can hover, while the jeep is limited to ground movement but has a different weapon spread. Once you choose, the action begins immediately. The core loop is simple: scroll upward, destroy enemy tanks, turrets, and aircraft while collecting weapon icons to power up your shots. Power-ups cycle through a small set of upgrades, so grab the ones that suit your play style. Watch your health bar - it's limited, and losing all lives means a game over. You can continue, but only a limited number of times depending on your settings. If you're playing with a friend, press Enter on player 2's controls at the start to enable two-player simultaneous play. One player takes the air vehicle, the other stays on the ground. Communication helps, but even solo the game is manageable once you learn enemy patterns. Just keep moving and shooting.

Mega SWIV FAQ

Is Mega SWIV exclusive to SEGA Genesis or did it appear on other systems?

Mega SWIV is the European Genesis/Mega Drive version of the game. It was also released as Firepower 2000 on the Super Nintendo and as Super SWIV on other platforms. So it appeared on multiple 16-bit consoles, but this specific European port is unique to the Genesis.

Does Mega SWIV have a multiplayer or co-op mode?

Yes, the game supports two-player simultaneous play. One player controls the helicopter and the other drives the jeep, working together through the stages. This co-op mode adds a layer of strategy and makes the game more chaotic and fun.

Is there anything iconic or memorable about Mega SWIV?

The ability to choose between a flying and a ground vehicle at the start is its biggest hook. The game also features a catchy soundtrack and challenging boss fights. For European Genesis owners, it was one of the few top-down shooters that allowed cooperative play with distinct vehicle roles.
