La Russa Baseball 95 is a sports simulation for the SEGA Genesis that brought Major League Baseball to the 16-bit generation. Released in the mid-1990s, this title carried the name of the then-Oakland Athletics manager Tony La Russa and aimed for a more authentic baseball experience than arcade-style rivals. While the specific developer and publisher aren't widely documented in the catalog description, the game was part of a series that appeared on multiple consoles. You take control of an MLB team, choosing lineups, calling pitches, and swinging the bat just like the real thing. The gameplay revolves around managing your squad through a full season or playing single exhibition matches. Pitching gives you options for different types of throws and locations, while batting requires timing and placement to make solid contact. Base running and fielding are handled with simple button presses, keeping the focus on strategy and statistics. What makes La Russa Baseball 95 worth revisiting is its commitment to simulation depth on the Genesis. It competes with other baseball games of the era like 'Sports Talk Baseball' but offers a more stat-heavy approach. If you're a fan of retro sports games that value realism over flashy graphics, this one holds up surprisingly well. It's a solid entry in the Genesis library, even if it doesn't have the same name recognition as EA's later Madden series.
