Jurassic Park (Japan)
What is Jurassic Park (Japan)?
This is the Japanese release of Jurassic Park for the Sega Genesis (known as the Mega Drive in Japan). Originally developed by Ocean Software and published by Sega, the game hit shelves in 1993 alongside its Western counterparts. It's a side-scrolling action game that sticks closely to the film's premise, putting you in the shoes of paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant as he tries to survive and escape the dinosaur-filled island.
How to Play Jurassic Park (Japan) Online
Getting Started
When you begin, you are dropped into the first area of Jurassic Park with Dr. Grant. The immediate goal is to move right through the jungle, avoiding or subduing dinosaurs like velociraptors and even a T-Rex in later sections. The game uses a simple health bar and a limited supply of tranquilizer darts for your gun - you can also find weapons like a shotgun or gas canisters scattered around.
The core loop involves exploring each side-scrolling level, looking for keys or items that unlock gates or trigger events. You will need to manage your ammo and health carefully, as dinosaurs can drain your life quickly. The Japanese version is identical in gameplay to the international release, but all menu text and on-screen prompts are in Japanese. Fortunately, the interface is straightforward: arrows on the pause screen for selecting options, and the Start button unpauses. There is no tutorial, so just jump in and experiment with the controls.
