Ecco Jr.: Genesis Adventure

Ecco Jr. is a SEGA Genesis game released in February 1995 for the USA and Australia. It's a spin-off of the main Ecco the Dolphin series, aimed squarely at younger players. Published by Sega, this cartridge offers a gentler, more exploratory take on underwater adventure, with none of the combat or high difficulty that defined its predecessors. It's sometimes called a 'preschool' or 'kiddie' version, and that's basically what it is.

Getting Started

When you start Ecco Jr., you guide a baby dolphin through calm ocean levels. The game is all about exploring: swim left or right, up or down, and interact with objects or other sea creatures by pressing the X button (A). There's no life meter or enemies to worry about, so the focus is on discovery and simple problem-solving.

Your goal in each stage is usually to find and help other dolphin friends or collect items. The controls are very floaty and gentle, which fits the relaxed pace. There are no continues or complex menus; just pick a level and start swimming. The game is short and forgiving, perfect for a quick, stress-free session.
