How to play Championship Pro-Am online
Getting Started
When you boot up Championship Pro-Am, you'll see a title screen and then a menu to select a game mode. Choose Single Race to jump straight into a track, or Championship to work through all eight circuits in order. The game defaults to automatic transmission, which is fine for beginners. Your car is the red one; opponents are in different colors.
The core loop is simple: accelerate, steer, and use items. Drive over colored icons on the track to collect power-ups. A blue icon gives you a speed boost, red is a missile (press a button to fire forward), and yellow is a shield that blocks one hit. Watch out for oil slicks and other obstacles. You have a limited number of continues, so try to finish in the top three to unlock the next track.
New players should focus on learning each track's layout, especially the tight curves and short cuts. The AI is aggressive and will use missiles against you, so grab shields whenever possible. There's no brake button - just let off the accelerator to slow down. The game is all about maintaining speed while avoiding hazards and using items wisely.

Championship Pro-Am FAQ
Who developed Championship Pro-Am?
The original NES version was created by Rare, and the SEGA Genesis port was also developed by Rare. Tradewest handled publishing duties for the US release.
What makes Championship Pro-Am stand out among SEGA Genesis titles of its era?
The remote-controlled car premise sets it apart from standard racing games. It combines tight arcade handling with weapon pickups like missiles and shields, creating a frantic, skill-based racing experience that feels distinct from more realistic sims.
Is Championship Pro-Am exclusive to SEGA Genesis or did it appear on other systems?
It first came out on the NES in 1988 before arriving on the Genesis in 1992. A version for the Atari Lynx also exists. The Genesis version is the most graphically polished of the three.
