Bonanza Bros. hit the SEGA Genesis in 1990, bringing a colorful and quirky arcade port to home consoles. While the arcade original offered a unique two-player co-op experience, the Genesis version preserved that same distinctive premise: a pair of thieves sneaking through buildings to grab loot.
Each level takes place inside a multi-room building patrolled by guards. You control one of the two brothers, moving from room to room to collect all the treasure while avoiding detection. Guards have a limited field of vision, and you can knock them out by hitting them from behind, but they will wake up after a short time. The core loop is simple: clear the building before the time runs out, and if you get caught, you have to start the level over. Co-op play is the highlight, as two players can coordinate to distract guards or cover more ground.
Today, Bonanza Bros. remains a charming curiosity in the Genesis library. Its cartoonish visuals and bouncy soundtrack give it a lighthearted feel that stands apart from more serious stealth games. How to Play Bonanza Bros. (World) Online
To start, press Start on the title screen to reach the stage select. Choose a level and then pick one of the two characters (the brothers look identical but are color-coded). In single player you control one brother, while a second player can join at any time. Your goal is to enter the building and grab every piece of treasure in each room. Move with the D-Pad, jump with X, and attack with S. Attacking only works when facing an enemy's back; hitting them from the front does nothing and they may catch you. Timing is important, as guards patrol set paths and you can hide in shadows.
The core loop is room-by-room exploration. Enter a room, avoid or knock out guards, collect the sparkling items, and exit through the door to the next room. You have a limited time, shown on the top of the screen. If time runs out or you get caught, the level restarts. In co-op, both players share the same lives and time, so work together. There are no continues, so careful play is rewarded. The game is fully in English, so menus are easy to navigate.
