Blue Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog
Inside Blue Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog
Blue Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog is a ROM hack for the SEGA Genesis that replaces the original Sonic with Knuckles the Echidna. It's a fan-made modification, not an official Sega release, and its origin and creator are not widely documented. The hack likely appeared in the early 2000s as part of the ROM hacking scene, where enthusiasts swapped character sprites and sometimes adjusted level palettes or music. The base game is the 1991 classic Sonic the Hedgehog, so you're essentially playing that same game but with Knuckles' model and color scheme dropped in place of Sonic's.
How to Play Blue Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog Online
Getting Started
Blue Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog plays identically to the original Sonic the Hedgehog. You start at Green Hill Zone with the goal of reaching the end of each level while collecting rings and defeating badniks. The only change is the player character - you control Knuckles, but his abilities remain the same as Sonic's default moveset (run, jump, spin attack). There is no gliding or climbing mechanics from the later Sonic & Knuckles title.
The core loop is running from left to right, avoiding spikes, pits, and enemies, and grabbing the Chaos Emeralds in special stages after collecting 50 rings and hitting a checkpoint with a large ring. Menus are in English, so navigation is straightforward. Press Start to begin, and use the D-Pad to move, X to jump, and S to perform a spin dash (hold down and tap S while not moving).
