The Addams Family on SEGA Genesis is a 2D platformer that came out in 1992, loosely tied to the live-action film. It was developed by Ocean Software and released in both the US and Europe during the 16-bit console boom. If you grew up with the creepy, kooky family, this was one of the many movie-licensed games that tried to capture that spooky vibe in cartridge form.

You step into the shoes of Gomez Addams, and your goal is to rescue his family from their scheming lawyer, Tully Alford. The gameplay is straightforward side-scrolling platforming: you run, jump, and avoid hazards across mansion-themed levels. Gomez can whack enemies with his sword cane, collect gold coins and other trinkets, and find keys to open doors. There are also a few light puzzle elements, like pushing blocks or hitting switches, that keep the levels from being just a straight line to the right.

It holds up as a decent example of an early-90s licensed platformer on the Genesis. The music and visuals capture the show's gothic atmosphere reasonably well, even if the controls feel a little stiff by today's standards. It's not the best game in the genre, but for fans of the Addams Family or retro platforming, it's a nostalgic trip worth taking for a few minutes. How to play Addams Family, The online

Start the game and you'll see a title screen. Press Enter to begin. The opening level drops you into the Addams family mansion as Gomez. Your immediate task is to move right and explore, collecting gold coins and avoiding or whacking the various spooky creatures that pop up. The core loop is simple: navigate each stage, find keys to unlock doors, and eventually reach a door that takes you to the next area. Pay attention to ledges and pits - falling costs you a life.

Gomez can attack by pressing S (B button) to swing his cane, which will dispatch most enemies in one hit. Use X (A button) to jump. Some platforms are out of reach, so you'll need to time your jumps carefully. There are no continues or save points, so you have to finish the game in one sitting. Keep an eye on your health bar - losing it sends you back to the start of the stage. It's not a long game, so persistence pays off. If you get stuck, try backtracking: you might have missed a key or a switch.
