Space Invaders - The Original Game
Space Invaders - The Original Game on PCE-CD
Space Invaders: The Original Game is a faithful port of the 1978 arcade classic, brought to the NEC PC Engine CD. Released exclusively in Japan during the early 1990s, this version leverages the CD-ROM format for enhanced audio. It stays true to the original's arcade roots, offering the same relentless alien assault that defined a generation of shooters.
The gameplay is straightforward: you control a laser base at the bottom of the screen, moving left and right to dodge incoming bombs while firing at rows of descending aliens. Each cleared wave increases speed and intensity. The signature four barriers provide temporary cover but degrade with each hit. Your goal is to survive and rack up the highest score possible - pure, simple, and addictive.
As a conversion, this title doesn't reinvent the wheel, but that's its charm. It's a time capsule of arcade history on a powerful 16-bit system, complete with crisp visuals and a soundtrack that might include redbook audio tracks. If you're looking for a direct, no-frills version of Space Invaders that plays well on a gamepad, this is a solid pick. Don't expect extras or modern twists - just the original game, done right.
How to Play Space Invaders - The Original Game Online
After loading the game, a title screen appears. Press Enter to start. If the menus are in Japanese, simply press Start at each prompt - most options default to the main mode. The game begins immediately.
Your goal is to shoot all descending aliens before they reach the ground. Move with the Arrow Keys and fire using the X key (which maps to the A button). The aliens move faster as fewer remain, so prioritize the ones that shoot at you. The four block barriers at the bottom can be used for cover, but they break apart over time. If an alien or its bomb hits you, you lose a life. The game ends when all lives are gone. That's it - pure arcade action with no complex mechanics to learn.
