When you start Championship Lode Runner, you are placed on a level screen with your character at the top. Your first task is to move down and start collecting the gold bars scattered around. The core loop is simple: gather all the gold to open an escape ladder, then climb it to finish the level.
Enemies patrol the level and can touch you to end your run. To deal with them, you can dig a hole beneath your feet by pressing a button (usually the run/attack button). Enemies will fall into these holes and be stunned for a few seconds. You can then walk over them safely. But if you dig a hole while an enemy is right next to you, you might trap yourself, so watch your positioning.
Ladders and ropes let you navigate vertical sections. You can also move right through enemies by digging at the right moment. The game is all about pattern recognition and quick decisions.
