Watashi no Kitchen: GBC Simulation

Watashi no Kitchen is a Japanese-exclusive cooking simulation game for the Game Boy Color. Released in 1999, it was developed and published by a small Japanese studio - exact details are not widely documented. The game is a straightforward cooking simulator aimed at a young audience, fitting into a niche genre that was more common on handhelds in Japan than in the West. Its menus and text are entirely in Japanese, so some familiarity with the language helps, but the core gameplay relies on selecting ingredients and following steps, making it playable even without reading everything. You take on the role of a home cook preparing various dishes. The main screen shows a kitchen counter with utensils and ingredients. You progress by selecting a recipe from a list, then gathering the correct items and performing actions like chopping, mixing, and heating in the right order. Each successful dish earns points and unlocks new recipes. A timer adds gentle pressure, but the game is forgiving. The interface uses simple icons and kanji, so trial and error works for navigation. Today, Watashi no Kitchen stands out as a rare example of a cooking game on the Game Boy. It has a cozy, slow-paced appeal that fans of simulation games from that era might enjoy. It is not a deep or challenging title, but its straightforward loop and charming pixel art make it a pleasant curiosity. If you like games that focus on daily tasks or want to see how handhelds handled cooking sims before stuff like Cooking Mama, this is worth a quick play.

How to play Watashi no Kitchen online

When you start Watashi no Kitchen, you first see a title screen. Press Start to begin. You will be taken to a menu with a list of recipes. Since the game is in Japanese, look for icons or choose the first option to proceed. The core loop is selecting a dish, gathering the correct ingredients from a pantry screen, then performing a sequence of cooking actions like cutting, mixing, or heating. Use the A button to confirm actions and the D-Pad to navigate between items. Once you complete a dish, you earn points and unlock more recipes. Pay attention to the order of steps - doing them wrong may burn or ruin the dish, but the game gives visual feedback so you can learn by trial. Start with simple recipes like rice or miso soup. The difficulty ramps up slowly. Remember to use the Select button to call up a hint if you are stuck. Most menus are listed vertically; pressing A on an item triggers the next screen. The game saves progress automatically after each successful dish.
