Tyrian 2000

This is a prototype build of Tyrian 2000 for the Game Boy Color, an unreleased port of the classic PC vertical-scrolling shooter originally developed by Epic MegaGames. While the PC version hit shelves in 1999 as an enhanced re-release of the original Tyrian, this GBC adaptation never made it to production - only this early proto survives. It's a curious piece of retro gaming history, offering a glimpse of how the frantic shmup action might have looked on Nintendo's handheld. Players control a starship moving through side-scrolling levels, blasting waves of enemy ships and dodging barrages of bullets. The core loop involves collecting weapon power-ups, money, and upgrades between stages to boost your firepower and defenses. As a prototype, some features may be incomplete or glitchy, but the basic run-and-gun rhythm is intact. The game follows the typical shooter structure of advancing through levels, defeating bosses, and trying to survive as long as possible. For fans of the series or retro shooter enthusiasts, this prototype is worth a look if only to see what might have been. It's a rough, unfinished snapshot of a would-be Game Boy Color title that never reached store shelves. Compared to other GBC shooters like R-Type DX or Gradius: Interstellar Assault, this prototype feels ambitious for its time, though it lacks the polish of a completed product. If you're curious about lost Game Boy Color games or enjoy hunting down prototype builds, this one delivers a brief but interesting experience.
